In late February of 2019 my buddy Neil and did a pretty extensive trip of the Arabian Peninsula. We rented a car in Muscat, and planned on driving to the beautiful Musandam Peninsula. The Musandam Peninsula is an Omani exclave at the tip of the UAE near the Strait of Hormuz. After crossing into the UAE from Oman we made a little detour to visit the tiny town of Madha. It is a tiny territory found in the Emirate of Sharjah. There’s not a lot to see here besides a mosque but there’s a hill you can drive up on that overlooks the town of 3000 or so residents.
The most interesting part about this Omani exclave is that inside the exclave is also a UAE second-order enclave known as Nahwa. This is some real travel nerd stuff to go out of your way to visit these places but I’m glad we did!
Nahwah is an even smaller village than Madha made up of a handful of buildings and an Emirati Police outpost. This isn’t the kind of travel most people would want to do, but if you’re a travel nerd like I am it might be worth a visit.
